Bitter vs. Better

by Ray Reuter on March 29, 2013

Bitter vs BetterBack when I lived in Minnesota, we were blessed with a tremendous teacher — Fr. Arnold Weber.  One of the most memorable messages Arnold would often share is “bitter vs. better.”

When we experience “key moments” in our life, we have a choice.  Are we resentful, angry, upset, complaining, bitter?  Or do we “get better” and learn from each experience?  The decision is yours!  Our attitude is a choice.  As Viktor Frankl, psychologist and Holocaust survivor, stated so profoundly …

“Everything can be taken from a person but one thing: the last of the human freedoms –
to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

So, let’s … be better, not bitter.
