Do Now, Understand Later

by Ray Reuter on April 2, 2010

I was reading the familiar story of Jesus and the Last Supper.  In that scene, Peter asks a question and Jesus answers … “What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.”

That response truly resonated with me, as if I was Peter.  I recalled the many times in my life that I was not understanding in the present moment, but when looking back, I understood.  What has occurred in your life, your business … that only became clear and “understood” as time passed?  What events and circumstances are you facing today that seem to stretch beyond your current understanding?

My insight is to KEEP DOING (I believe Jesus intentionally used the word “doing”) — without regard to understanding.  Not letting the yearning for understanding thwart taking action and pressing forward, and trusting the understanding will come later.  Now do; later understand.
