Recently, a wise man shared the following distinction with me …
Winners focus on the journey … whiners focus on the destination.
I get that. When I find myself whining, it is usually because the outcome / result / “destination” did not turn out as planned. Boo-hoo. I often look to blame others, myself, God — whoever or whatever — for where I or the situation ended up. This thinking steers me away from responsibility and accountability.
On the other hand, “winning” is about embracing the joy of the journey — the ups and downs, the ins and outs, the hopes and struggles. When this happens, in almost every circumstance, I win because the outcome does not control me.
So stop whining and champion winning!
“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”
— Ernest Hemingway
